Rose Colors and Meanings

Flowers have helped us convey our feelings for centuries and their colors play a big part in that. There is no flower that has been revered and celebrated as much as the rose. Roses are the flowers to express feelings and emotions. Roses come in various colors. Every rose color has its own meaning. When you choose a color, variety or number of roses for someone, you are personalizing your gift with deeper sentiment. In fact, roses are synonymous to love. As a gift it holds numerous messages, which the receiver understands through its colours. When looking for a way to add extra feeling to your silent message of emotion, here is a list of the meanings connected with the different colors of roses.

WHITE - Purity, Innocence, Sympathy, Spirituality

Early tradition used white roses as a symbol for true love, an association which would later become the hallmark of the red rose. Also known as the bridal rose, the white rose is a traditional wedding represents unity, virtue, and the pureness of a new love. White roses are also associated with honor and reverence, which makes them a fitting memorial for a departed loved one.

PINK - Gratitude, Appreciation, Love

Colors range from light pink to peach to darker pink. Varieties include Ana, Livia, Pink Titanic, Rossini, Orlando and Attache. Pink roses in general are given to those whom you want to show thankfulness, admiration, and happiness. The different shades of pink can have more precise meanings. Deep pink is used for appreciation and gratitude, whereas light pink conveys admiration and sympathy, and peach roses are given to show modesty.

YELLOW - Friendship, Joy, Get Well

This color depicts friendship, joy, and wellness. Yellow roses are generally associated with the sun, and mostly used for cheering people up. Generally, when people are unwell or hospitalized, visitors prefer sending a bouquet of yellow flowers. Yellow represents brightness. It conveys a message of love, without the romantic subtext of other colors. It is also associated with friendship. Yellow roses are especially used to delight a hospitalized person or to start a new relationship (friendship).

RED - Love, Romance, Passion, Respect

Red roses immediately bring to mind passion and true love. Valentine's Day would hardly exist without this bold and dramatic bloom. The ultimate symbol of romantic love and enduring passion, the red rose also conveys respect and the creative spirit of love. Representing true love stronger than thorns, the red rose is known universally as the lover's rose.

ORANGE - Desire, Enthusiasm, Passion

A bouquet of orange roses are the embodiment of desire. They often symbolize passion, enthusiasm, fascination and excitement. Orange roses are an expression of passionate romance. A bouquet of orange roses sends a powerful and meaningful message.

LAVENDER - Enchantment, Majesty, Love at first sight

One of the most beautiful colors, a lavender bouquet expresses enchantment, majestic and love at first sight feeling. Whenever a sender wants to convey how he was attached towards the recipients, lavender flower is the best way to convey this message. This color was also associated with royalty, traditionally. Lavender flowers are particularly useful for impressing bosses or decorating a royal dinner table.

BLACK - Death, Farewell, Goodbye

Black roses are symbolic of death. Many people view flowers of this color as an omen, but they can signify change or rejuvenation on the horizon, as some buds appear black but then bloom into crimson red. The meaning may not be understood or well received as a gift, so you should avoid this color if you are at all unsure of the recipient's beliefs.

Blue - Unattainable, The impossible

The quest for a blue rose continues, since they are merely a fabrication of the eager, dreaming mind at this point. The blue roses that exist are actually variations of purple or lavender, which look blue in certain light. However, you wouldn't really want to send a blue rose to someone, as it means a figment of the imagination, or something unobtainable. If you like blue roses just because they are different, consider the decadent Blue Moon hybrid tea rose.

White Rosebud - Symbol of girlhood

Single rose in any color - Simplicity, Gratitude

God proved His love on the Cross. When Christ hung, and bled, and died,

it was God saying to the world, "I Love You."

The cross is God's way of taking away all of our accusations, excuses, and arguments. The cross is God taking on flesh and blood and saying, "Me too."

The Blood deals with what we have done, whereas the Cross deals with what we are. The Blood disposes of our sins, while the Cross strikes at the root of our capacity for sin.

The Cross is the blazing fire at which the flame of our love is kindled,

but we have to get near enough for its sparks to fall on us.

There is no man that goeth to heaven but he must go by the Cross.

The Cross is the standing way-mark which all they that go to glory must pass by.

The Cross is God's truth about us, and therefore it is the only power that can make us truthful. When we know the Cross we are no longer afraid of the truth.

Believe in Him and not trust in Him?

You might as well say, the Jews did love Him when they nailed Him to the Cross.

God has ways of shaking the world when He is at work.

He literally caused the ground to quake when Jesus died on the Cross.

All heaven is interested in the Cross of Christ, all hell terribly afraid of it,

while men are the only beings who more or less ignore its meaning.

Weak Christians are afraid of the shadow of the Cross.

Salvation comes through a cross and a crucified Christ.

and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,
for instruction in righteousness.

God is faith;
he will not let you be tempered beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted,
he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
